LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Nia Bowe hit her sixth home run and recorded four base hits but it was not enough as Coppin State's softball team dropped a pair of games at Rider on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles dropped the opener, 7-3 before falling, 11-3 in the nightcap.
A freshman from Milford, Del., Bowe went 3-for-4 with a home run in the opener while
Megan Narvaez also had a pair of hits in game one.
Cayla Brown and
Hatika James also had RBIs in the first game for the Eagles.
After a scoreless first Rider got to starting pitcher
Madison Didion for three runs in the next two innings. Neither team would score in the fourth but Bowe got Coppin on the board with her long ball.
Didion once again blanked Rider in the fifth but the Broncs went off for four runs in the sixth to make it a 7-1 ballgame. The Eagles did not go away easily as they loaded the bases with one out before Brown drove in Narvaez with a single. James then reached on an infield single to score Soria but Rider retired the next two batters to earn the win.
All seven runs of Didion's were earned in the loss as she struck out two and gave up 12 base hits.
Brown drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap as all of CSU's runs came in the third inning. Bowe scored later in the inning on a passed ball to tie the score at three.
Rider tacked on three runs in its half of the third off
Megan Brogden and after a scoreless fourth added five more runs to end the game.
Coppin will play host to MEAC rival Howard on Friday, April 6 for a 5 pm doubleheader.
