VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Coppin State volleyball team has been chosen to finish sixth in the Northern Division in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Preseason Poll as selected by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The Eagles, who finished the 2008 season with an 0-24 record, received 112 points in the Northern Division poll. Maryland Eastern Shore received 20 first-place votes and 257 total points to claim the top spot.
Howard (187 pts), Delaware State (184 pts), Morgan State (149 pts) and Hampton (145 pts) round out the Northern Division poll.
Defending MEAC champion Florida A&M received 19 first-place votes and a total of 253 points to garner top honors in the Southern Division.
Bethune-Cookman (187 pts), South Carolina State (183 pts), Norfolk State (169 pts) and North Carolina A&T round out the Southern Division.
The Eagles will open their season on August 28 at Colgate and the home opener will be on September 9 against Lafayette.
Coppin State will begin its 10-game MEAC schedule on October 9 versus Howard in the Coppin Center.
The MEAC season will conclude on November 20-22 with the conference tournament, which will be held in the Coppin Center.
