Hawks Snap Losing Streak With Doubleheader Sweep of Eagles
April 26, 2008PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team snapped a 17-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Coppin State on Saturday.
The Hawks won the opener 9-0 and completed the sweep with a 14-1 victory in game two.
UMES used a nine-run third inning to record the first-game victory and posted its first MEAC victory of the season.
Danyel Davis and Joyce Castro had base hits for the Eagles in game one.
CSU would grab an early 1-0 lead in game two, scoring in the top of the first inning. Danyel Davis hit a one-out double off of UMES starting pitcher Bonnie Heineken. After advancing to third base on a groundout, Davis would score the Eagles lone run on a Jade Dudley RBI single.
The Hawks answered with five runs in the bottom of the first inning and then added four more in the second inning.
Davis collected two more hits for Coppin State in game two, while Dudley picked up the Eagles other hit.
