
Tournament host Coppin State will face Florida A&M in the opening round of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference volleyball tournament on Friday (Nov. 16) at 4 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.

Freshman Patrick Cole scored 15 points, but Texas used a stifling defensive effort to limit Coppin State to 24.6 percent shooting on its way to a 69-46 victory over the Eagles in the opening round of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational on Monday in the Erwin Center.

Coppin State's Patrick Cole was named the Co-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week the league announced on Monday. Cole shared the award with Darryl Palmer of South Carolina State.

The Coppin State bowling team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with two victories at the MEAC Northern Division Tournament hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday and Sunday.

Ariel Richard had 14 kills and Coppin State hit .361 over the final three sets as it rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Howard 17-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 15-12 on Sunday in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season finale for both teams in Burr Gymnasium.

Senior Leola Spotwood scored 19 points and junior Kyra Coleman had 18 points, but Wake Forest overcame a five-point second-half deficit on its way to an 82-75 victory over Coppin State on Sunday in Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
