
Leola Spotwood scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Larrisa Carter added 12 points and 12 rebounds as Coppin State posted its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory of the season with a 57-53 victory over Savannah State on Saturday in the Physical Education Complex.

The Coppin State department of athletics, in conjunction with the Athletic Academic Success Center, has instituted a faculty mentoring program that will begin in the spring of 2013.

Eight Coppin State student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the 2012 fall semester and the athletic department reported an overall grade-point average above 3.00 for the seventh consecutive semester.

Senior Leola Spotwood scored a team-high 19 points, but Saadia Doyle scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds leading Howard to a 67-54 victory over Coppin State in the Eagles Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener on Monday in the Physical Education Complex.

Hugh Prince won the mile and Jeremy Dorsey captured first place in the 60-meter hurdles leading the Coppin State men's track and field team at the 2013 UMES Coach O Invitational in the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Sophomore Melissa Caddle won the 60-meter dash and freshman Deandra Daniel won the high jump highlighting the Coppin State performances at the Delaware Invitational at the Delaware Fieldhouse.
