Eagles Announce Men's Basketball Schedule

August 27, 2009
BALTIMORE -- A schedule that features 13 home games, including 10 in the new Physical Education Complex, highight the Coppin State University men's basketball schedule for 2009-10, as announced Thursday by head coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell.

Coppin State will play six games against five NCAA Tournament teams from last season, including its annual home-and-home showdown with Morgan State.

The Eagles are scheduled to open the new Physical Education Complex against the Bears on Dec. 5.

The 13 home games ties for the most ever in the 23-year tenure of Mitchell. Coppin State also played 13 home games during the 1991-92 season.

CSU's schedule also features a home game against Loyola (Md.) on Dec. 9, and road games at UMBC (Nov. 24) and at Navy (Dec. 30). It marks the first game against the Retrievers since 1999 and the first-ever game versus the Midshipmen.

Coppin State will open the season on Nov. 13 against Lincoln (Pa.) in the Coppin State Classic, which will be a doubleheader with the women's team. The Eagles will also face West Virginia Tech in the second game of the Classic on Nov. 14.

The Eagles road schedule is highlighted by visits to Southern California, West Virginia, Michigan and Oklahoma State who each advanced to the NCAA Tournament last year.

After opening the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference portion of the schedule against Morgan State in the PEC, the Eagles will face Hampton (Jan. 9), Howard (Jan. 11) and South Carolina State (Jan. 16) on the road.

Coppin State will open a four-game homestand on Feb. 6 against Bethune-Cookman, while also hosting Florida A&M (Feb. 8), South Carolina State (Feb. 13) and Winston-Salem State (Feb. 15).

Homecoming is slated for Feb. 27 against North Carolina A&T, while the home finale will be played on March 1 against Norfolk State.

The Eagles will conclude regular season play on March 4 at Morgan State.

The MEAC Tournament is slated for March 9-13 at the Lawrence Joel Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.
