BALTIMORE, Md. -- Nigel Leonce of the men's track and field team and Sherrie Tucker of the women's basketball team were named Coppin State Male and Female Athlete of the Year at the annual student-athlete awards banquet in the Tawes Center.

Leonce was named the Male Athlete of the Year, while Tucker was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Leonce, who still has hopes of qualifying for the NCAA East Regional, earned all-conference honors during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He won the 800 meter title at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, and placed second in the same event at the outdoor championships.

Tucker finished her career as the second leading scorer in CSU history and was named the MEAC Player of the Year for the second straight season. She led the Eagles to an undefeated conference season and a berth into the NCAA Tournament. She led the Eagles averaging 12.7 points and was second on the team with a 4.9 rebounds per game average.

Also earning honors were Tywain McKee and Brittany Arvin as the school's Rookies of the Year.

McKee helped lead the men's basketball team to a 12-6 MEAC record and a second-place finish by averaging a team-best 15.4 points per game. He was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year, second team All-MEAC and was a member of the MEAC All-Rookie Team.

Arvin helped the Eagles to the second most victories in school history as CSU compiled a 7-25 overall record. CSU also posted a 5-5 conference record, which marks the best season in school history. Arvin was named second team All-MEAC and shattered the school record for kills in a season with 436.

Baseball player Graham Johnson was the recipient of the Male President's Eagle Award, while Shaunita Middleton of the women's basketball and bowling teams was the Female President's Eagle honoree. The award is given to the student-athlete that best combines athletic and academic performance and community service.

Florin Celea of the men's tennis team and Patricia Pabon of the softball team were named the Scholar Athlete Award winners.
