Mitchell to be Inducted into Gloucester County Hall of Fame
March 24, 2009BALTIMORE -- Coppin State head coach Ron "Fang" Mitchell will be inducted into the Gloucester County (N.J.) Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday at Auletto's Sunset Ballroom in Almonesson, N.J.
Mitchell, who completed his 23rd season at Coppin State in 2008-09, was the head coach at Gloucester County College from 1978 through 1986.
During his eight years at Gloucester County his teams won 227 games and averaged 28 wins per season. After his first season as the Roadrunners head coach where the team won 19 games, Mitchell led Gloucester County to at least 26 games in each of the next seven seasons.
His teams won 30, or more, games four times and participated in the National Junior College Tournament in 1980, 1981, 1985 and 1986.
Mitchell has won 370 games at Coppin State and 597 in his 31 years as a head coach.
Along with Mitchell, Michelle Rowen, Jeep Walker, Ruth Warren Colvin, Gerry Taraschi, Ringo Adamson, John Villecco, Sal Marchese, Jr., Paul Deal, Joe Herrschaft, Karen Dilmore, Ron Case, Jann Bower Jenkins, Bill Washington, Anthony Maska, Bones Howard, Dom Carrera and Frank Pulio will be inducted into the hall of fame.
