Baird Captures High Jump Title at MEAC Indoor Championships
February 15, 2008LANDOVER, Md. -- Coppin State junior Natoya Baird won the high jump event on the first day of competition at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
Led by Baird, the Eagles are currently in sixth place with 15.50 points. Maryland Eastern Shore leads after day one with 36 points followed by Hampton (32 pts), Morgan State (25.50 pts), North Carolina A&T (24 pts) and Norfolk State (16.50 pts).
Baird won the event by clearing a season-best 5-7.75 to earn 10 points. Teammate Ayana Riviere tied for third place in the high jump with an effort of 5-2.50 earning the Eagles other 5.50 points on the day.
Senior Indira Laurencin qualified for the finals in the 400 meters as she finished second in her heat in 58.08.
