Eagles Fourth After First Day of MEAC Indoor Championships
February 15, 2008LANDOVER, Md. -- Paced by its distance medley relay team and freshman Dale Dunn, Coppin State is currently in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex.
The Eagles tallied 15 points, which trails Norfolk State (52 pts), Delaware State (32 pts) and Bethune-Cookman (19 pts).
The Eagles distance medley relay team of Dunn, Winston Whittingham, Jieutonne Archer and Anthony Littlejohn placed second in a time of 10:15.36 to earn eight points.
Earlier in the day, Dunn finished third in the 800 meters in 1:54.21 to earn six points while teammate Archer was eighth in 1:56.08 to earn Coppin State's other point on the day.
Coppin State All-American Steve Delice had an outstanding opening day qualifying for the finals in both the 200 and 400 meters by winning his individual heats in both races.
He finished first in his heat of the 200 meters in 22.13 and ranks as the fifth-best qualifying time overall.
He also won his heat of the 400 meters by finishing in 48.90, which was the third-best qualifying time.
