Baird Leads Heptathlon After First Day at MEAC Outdoor Championships

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Natoya Baird of Coppin State is in first place after the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hughes Stadium on the campus of Morgan State.
Baird, who set a Coppin State record in the heptathlon last week at the Penn Relays, has 3,104 points after the first day. Lavonne Idlette of Hampton is second with 3,069 points while Cuquie Melville of Delaware State is third with 3,019 points.
Deondrea Hall of Coppin State is currently seventh with 2,535 points, while teammate Telisa Dixon is 10th with 2,360 points.
Baird won her heat of the 100-meter hurdles, and had the third-best time overall, in 14.72.
She then won the high jump event with a leap of 5-8, which earned her 891 points. Baird was third overall in the shot put with a throw of 33-10.25 and capped her day with a time of 26.15 in the 200 meters.
Hall's best showing came in the 200 meters where she placed second in her heat in a time of 26.10.
Dixon placed second in her heat of the hurdles in 16.38 and placed third in her heat of the 200 meters in 26.96.
