Eagles Fall to Mount St. Mary's 14-2
May 01, 2007EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Drew Counselman homered and drove in four runs and six Mount St. Mary's pitchers combined to limit Coppin State to three hits as the Mountaineers defeated the Eagles 14-2 in non-conference baseball action at Straw Family Stadium on Tuesday.
Counselman was 2-for-3 on the day and scored two runs to go along with his four runs batted in, while Joe Hayes, Matt Trusch and Matt Eiden each drove in two runs for Mount St. Mary's.
Harry Williams had two of the three hits for Coppin State and extended his hitting streak to eight games and raised his batting average to .330 on the season.
The Mountaineers, who improved to 26-17 on the season, jumped out to a 12-1 lead after three innings highlighted by a pair of five-run innings.
DeShawn Daniel, who scored both runs for the Eagles, manufactured the first CSU run in the top of the second inning. After drawing a walk to lead off the inning he then stole second and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, he came home to score on a wild pitch.
Daniel produced more of the same in the top of the sixth inning. He again drew a walk and stole his second base of the game. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and came home to score on a Mount St. Mary's fielding error.
With the loss, Coppin State dropped to 0-40 on the season.
