combined on a four-hit shutout as Coppin State opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 7-0 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday at Hawks Field.
Kashangaki had a double, three singles, scored two times and stole two bases to pace the Coppin State offensive attack.
Taylor, who hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 15 innings pitched, picked up his first win of the season by allowing just four hits in seven shutout innings of work. Martinez allowed just a walk in his two innings of relief.
Coppin State took an early lead against the Hawks by scoring in the top of the first inning.
Kashangaki walked to lead off the game and promptly stole second base, and then moved to third base on a flyout off the bat of Dalton Cozart
Hamlett walked and then Kashangaki and Hamlett executed a double steal with Kashangaki scoring on the play giving CSU a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles then added two more runs in the top of the second inning.
Kraft reached on an infield single to begin the inning and advanced to second on a UMES throwing error.
then increased the lead to 2-0 when he singled to left scoring Kraft.
The Eagles pushed the lead to 3-0 when Kashangaki doubled, which brought home Pitts with the third run of the game.
Coppin State tacked on another run in the top of the third inning when Alex Brown
doubled in Hamlett who led off the inning with a single.
The Eagles increased the lead to 7-0 by scoring three times in the top of the ninth inning.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Hawks Field.
