Hineline Announces Recruiting Class
June 27, 2012BALTIMORE -- Coppin State head softball coach Larry Hineline announced his recruiting class on Wednesday. The six-player class consists of one junior college player and five incoming freshmen.
The incoming class for the 2012-13 academic year is Marisha Bates of Royersford, Pa., Gabriel Ziller of Hazelton, Pa., Danielle Smith of Rising Sun, Md., Alyssa Barker of Elyria, Ohio, Lauren Rogers of Uxbridge, Mass., and Victoriz Lopez of Lancaster, Calif.
"We are extremely happy with the recruiting class that has committed to the Coppin State softball program," said Hineline. "We have added needed team speed to the roster and have improved our defensive capabilities. Our incoming class come from outstanding high school and travel ball programs and gives us an element of depth and talent that we need to compete for a MEAC title."
Bates is an outstanding defensive infielder who earned All-Pioneer Conference honors on two occasions while playing for Spring-Ford High School.
Ziller is a junior college transfer from Lackawanna College where she batted .470 last year with four triples, 11 doubles and 20 runs batted in. She played her high school softball at Hazelton Area High School.
Smith is a local middle infield prospect who attended Rising Sun High School. She was an All-Chesapeake Division and all-county selection and helped lead Rising Sun to the Class 2A state semifinals last season.
Barker is a pitcher who also has pop in her bat. She posted a 9-1 career record on the mound and helped lead Elyria High School to the state semifinals last season.
Rogers is a strong hitter who plays third and short. She was an All-Southern Worcester County League selection for Uxbridge High School.
Lopez attended Lancaster High School and is a versatile athlete who can play either outfield or infield.
Coppin State finished the 2012 season with a 20-22 overall record and a 13-5 mark in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division.
