Eagles Continue to Soar in Classroom
June 05, 2012BALTIMORE -- Eleven Coppin State student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the 2012 spring semester and the athletic department reported an overall grade-point average above 3.00 for the sixth consecutive semester.
Torie Livingston, Tyler Phillips, Patrick Thomas, Richard Farquharson, Bengallo Morrison, Stephanie Sulik, Loren Johnston, Krystal Roach, Emily DeJesus, Tiffani Whaley and Samantha Denlinger each earned a perfect 4.00 grade-point average during the spring term.
Over 59 percent of the student-athletes at Coppin State earned a grade-point average of 3.00 or better during the spring semester led by the women's track team which had 16 members top the 3.00 scale.
"Our student-athletes took advantage of the structured protocol that requires being proactive, academically assertive and active communicators," said assistant athletic director Fred Reynolds. "I am exceptionally proud of the student-athletes, coaches and the academic resource center staff for consistently emphasizing academic excellence."
Volleyball (3.60), men's tennis (3.47), women's track (3.24), women's tennis (3.06), softball (3.02) and men's track (3.01) each posted a team grade-point average above 3.00 during the semester.
Additionally, the Coppin State student-athlete graduation rate has continued to rise. During the 2004 cohort year, Coppin State posted a graduation rate of 65 percent, which is up from a rate of 58 percent in the 2002 cohort year.
