Eagles Open Tournament Play With Maryland Eastern Shore
March 09, 2010WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Coppin State men's basketball team will open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament play on Wednesday (March 10) at 3 p.m. against Maryland Eastern Shore at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Eagles, who finished the regular season with an 8-21 overall record, are the 11th-seed in the tournament.
Maryland Eastern Shore, the 6th-seed, won both games between the two teams during the regular season. The Hawks defeated CSU 70-62 on Jan. 23 in the Physical Education Complex, and then won 66-52 on Feb. 20 in Princess Anne, Md.
Coppin State has never lost an opening round game in the MEAC Tournament (3-0) and also has never lost to Maryland Eastern Shore in the tournament having won each of the previous two meetings.
The Eagles are led by sophomore Michael Harper who averages 10.1 points per game and junior Kareen Brown who scores 9.8 per contest. Sam Coleman is the leading rebounder on the team averaging 5.8 per game.
The winner of the game will advance to meet third-seeded South Carolina State on Thursday (March 11) at 6 p.m.
