North Carolina A&T Completes Sweep of Coppin State

HANOVER, Md. -- Kelvin Freeman had two hits and drove in three runs and North Carolina A&T held off a late Coppin State rally to defeat the Eagles 7-4 to complete a three-game sweep of the series on Sunday at Joe Cannon Stadium and spoil the final home game for senior Harry Williams.
 
Williams, who is the Eagles all-time hit leader, made his final appearance in a Coppin State uniform at Joe Cannon Stadium on Sunday.
 
Freeman was 9-for-14 in the three-game series and drove in 13 runs to lead the Aggies.
 
On Sunday, Freeman had an RBI single in the second inning and later added a two-run single in the third frame.
 
The Eagles fell behind 6-1, but then rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
Mark Reynoso reached on a throwing error to start the inning and advanced to second and third on a wild pitches. Chris Kashangaki singled up the middle to plate Reynoso and cut the lead to 6-2.
 
Alex Garza then reached on a fielding error, which advanced Kashangaki to third base. Kashangaki and Garza executed a double steal and Kashangaki scored on a North Carolina A&T throwing error.
 
Craig Richmond then scored Garza from third base with a sacrifice fly that trimmed the lead to 6-4.
 
Xavier Macklin increased the North Carolina A&T lead to 7-4 when he homered to lead off the eighth inning.
 
The Eagles made things interesting in the ninth inning and brought the tying run to the plate.
 
Kashangaki singled with one out and moved to second when Richmond added a two-out single. Aggie closer garrett Braun was then able to record the final out on a fielder's choice to end the game.
 
Coppin State dropped to 13-31 overall and finishes MEAC play with a 7-11 record, while North Carolina A&T improved to 25-23 on the season and finishes conference play with a 15-3 record.
