North Carolina A&T Uses Long Ball to Defeat Coppin State
May 08, 2010HANOVER, Md. -- Kelvin Freeman had four hits, including two home runs, and drove in nine runs as North Carolina A&T defeated Coppin State 23-2 to complete a sweep of the Eagles in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Joe Cannon Stadium.
The Aggies won the first game 14-10 despite being out-hit by Coppin State 14-13.
Led by Freeman the Aggies pounded out eight home runs in the doubleheader.
Nick Rogers, Xavier Macklin, Marquis Riley and Alex Grubb all homered in the first game, while Freeman, George Hines and Macklin hit home runs in the second game.
Dwight Robinson had five hits and two runs batted in during the doubleheader to lead the Eagles. Harry Williams had three hits and two RBI and Mark Reynoso and Alex Black also had two runs driven in.
Coppin State dropped to 13-30 overall and 7-10 in the MEAC, while North Carolina A&T improved to 24-23 on the season and 14-3 in conference play.
The Eagles and Aggies will conclude the three-game series on Sunday (May 9) at 11 a.m. at Joe Cannon Stadium.
