Amoah wins 200m prelim heat at MEACS

Amoah Qualifies for NCAA Quarterfinals in 100m Dash at East Prelims

TAMPA, Fla. – Coppin State's Joseph Amoah ran the ninth-fastest time of the First Round of the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Round in the 100m Dash on Thursday afternoon to qualify for Friday's Quarterfinal at USF Track & Field Stadium. 
 
A sophomore from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah clocked a 10.22 which placed him third in his heat, automatically qualifying him for the Quarterfinal.  Winning his heat was Andre Ewers of Florida State, whose time of 10.08 was the fastest of the day.  Tennessee's Mustaqeem Williams took second in the heat, crossing the finish in 10.201 which was fifth overall. 
 
Also qualifying for Friday's race from Amoah's heat was Rodney Rowe of North Carolina A&T, Mississippi State's Karson Kowalchuk and Myles Valentine from University of Miami.
 
Amoah will run out of lane seven in heat two at Friday's quarterfinal which is set for 1:30 pm. The top three finishers from each heat will automatically qualify along with the next three fastest times for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships to be held in Eugene, Ore., from June 6-9.
