PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Coppin State men's 4x100m and 4x200m Relays qualified for Saturday's Championships of America with impressive showings in the heats of the Penn Relays on Friday afternoon.
Coppin took ninth overall out of 65 teams in the 4x1 with a time of 40.92 to qualify for tomorrow's Championship at 1:35 pm. The quartet consisted of
Keshaun Hodges,
Joseph Amoah,
Martin Owusu-Antwi and
Aaron Lewis. CSU took third in its preliminary heat behind squads from Houston and NC Central while defeating St. Augustine's and five others.
Hodges and Amoah also led off the CSU 4x200m Relay team to a third place finish in a time of 1:25.10. Joining the duo on the relay was
Babadeji Balogun and
Devin Teagle and the quartet will run in the Championship of America at 2:45 pm on Saturday.
Coppin student-athletes were busy throughout the day as
Cheyenne Johnson competed in the 400m hurdles, the first event of Saturday's schedule. With a time of 55.48, Johnson took 31
st overall and fifth out of nine in his heat.
Elijah Noel also competed individually in the long jump and with a leap of 22' 1.0", Noel took 29
th of 40 competitors.
To close out the day, Coppin's sprint medley took 16
th of 32 schools with a time of 3:28.91.
On the women's side,
Tre'J Johnson took 10
th of 38 competitors in the triple jump with a mark of 38' 7.0"
