NEW YORK, N.Y. – Kristen Deacon won the weight throw and broke her own school-record in the weight throw to lead the Coppin State women's track & field team at the HBCU Battle at the Track held at the Armory Track & Field Center on Friday afternoon.
With a toss of 57' 6.5.0", Deacon shattered her old school-record in the weight throw of 56' 7.25" that was set at the 2017 Terrapin Invitational by nearly a foot. Deacon's effort was over two feet further than her toss to open the season.
Alanna Newby also showed great improvement in the event with a 37' 3.25" effort, besting her last performance by over two feet. Newby also threw the shot 38' 7.50", improving by nearly two-and-a-half feet from the Navy Lid Lifter last month.
In other field events,
Randi Bohler placed fifth in the long jump, clearing 17' 4.75".
Erielle Wallace led the Eagles in the running events, placing second in the 400m Dash in 56.64. Improving by over six-tenths of a second from her season opener, Wallace's time ranks fourth in school-history.
Erykah Jerome also medaled in the event with a time of 59.24, nearly a second faster than her previous time.
Tatiana Ogundeko also took the silver in the Mile with a personal-record time of 5:25.01 while
Lunnise Gibson earned the bronze in the 3,000m Run (12:38.90).
Coppin returns to the track on Saturday, January 20 at the Terrapin Invitational in Landover, Md.
